Adoption
Look to the lawyers at the Bob Leonard Law Group to make sure there are no unwanted surprises and no mistakes to mar the joy of an adoption.
Adopting a child can be one of the most exciting and memorable events of a family’s life. The process of becoming parents by choice—and parents of a chosen child, at that—should be a sublime experience. Without wanting to rain on the parade, however, there are some legal requirements that must be handled competently. No one wants to find out five years later that a document or petition was not filed or completed properly. You need someone who will work quietly in the background of your adoption, making sure that all of the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted, but without intruding on your excitement and joy.
— Michael Flynn, Psychologist & Attorney at Law.
We counsel clients in matters relating to interstate adoption; stepparent, grandparent, kinship adoption; and independent, open- and closed-adoption. On our FAQ page, we answer some common questions about Texas adoption law. Attorney, Bob Leonard, also has a long-standing interest in the welfare of children, and is the author of the Abandoned Baby Bill.
Prenuptial agreements
Let the attorneys at the Bob Leonard Law Group help you communicate about your future together.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.Prenups get a bad rap. When you ask a future spouse to sign a prenup, it almost seems like you’re admitting defeat before you begin. But the truth is people break up sometimes. It’s not planned, but it happens. At the end of the relationship, most of us are not in the state of mind to be reasonable. It is infinitely better to plan your future together, openly communicating about the difficult things: how to manage debt, share household expenses, and settle possible future disagreements.
Our attorneys can assist you with drafting and filing your prenuptial agreement.
Divorce

You need help from someone with experience to find a creative solution to your disputes over your children—a solution that meets your needs, not just boilerplate. Your children can benefit from a psychologist’s extensive knowledge and informed wisdom about what children and families need at this difficult time.
We counsel clients about matters relating to child custody, visitation, interstate custody, and parental rights.
Grandparent’s Rights
Call on the attorneys at the Bob Leonard Law Group to assist you through complex and confusing family crises.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.Many grandparents are called on to help take care of their grandchildren. Over the years, I’ve worked with many grandparents whose children have died, divorced, or been incarcerated. What all these cases have in common is the love shared between the grandparent and the grandchild. I find that the one of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is helping families strengthen these types of bonds.
Our attorneys are available to discuss your rights as a grandparent and can help you file for termination of parental rights.
Child Support
When child support issues threaten to disrupt a parent-child relationship, meet with the attorneys at the Bob Leonard Law Group. We can help you work through any unresolved issues.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.During divorce proceedings, child support payments are intended to benefit the children. But life sometimes takes unpredictable turns and the circumstances may make it difficult to keep up with payments. We work with the parents to reach feasible financial arrangements that both benefit the child and give each parent some leeway.
We can assist you with initially setting up child support payments and modifying an existing agreement to accommodate relocation or changing financial circumstances.
Interstate Issues
For experienced representation from attorneys who know how to work within the laws of each state, contact the Bob Leonard Law Group.
People relocate all the time. But when children are involved, this can be problematic. The laws in each state vary. So for parents or grandparents who are looking to maintain child support, custody, or visitation, where you live will make a difference in terms of what laws apply. It helps to have an attorney who's experienced in these matters at your side.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.
Our attorneys help you navigate through the jurisdictional issues related to Texas and interstate adoption, custody, and support.
Name Change
Let the attorneys at the Bob Leonard Law Group assist you with this time-sensitive process.
Whether you’re changing your last name to a married or maiden name, there are many forms you may need to fill out. After you have gotten your marriage license or divorce decree, you will need to update your passport, your driver’s license, voter registration, and inform the I.R.S. Professionals who are licensed will need to contact the state licensing board. We try to make this process easier for the client, working with them to make sure that nothing important is missed.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.
Our knowledgeable attorneys can help to make this transition smoother by assisting you with the necessary legal documents.
Terminations
When you need an attorney or a mediator to intercede to terminate parental rights, turn to the attorneys at the Bob Leonard Law Group to help you make the right choices.
It is really difficult to address the subject of terminating parental rights. Parents feel protective of their children, but the situation and circumstances beg the question, ‘Is this really in the best interest of the child?’ As an attorney, I feel that it’s important to sort through these tumultuous feelings and do what’s right.
— Judith Van Hoof, Attorney at Law.
We help clients with all aspects of the termination of parental rights, and represent you at court as needed.
Social Studies
A social study is a court-ordered investigation of the living conditions of a child or incapacitated adult. Consult our qualified attorneys for assistance with these matters.
After the court orders a home study, you will have to fill out a questionnaire. This form may be the most important element in your case. Even before speaking to you, the caseworker will form a general theory of the case based on how you filled out this document. You will have to provide references as character witnesses. We help our clients prepare for all aspects of this review. We perform the appropriate background checks and prepare you for the interview with the caseworker—steps that can make the deciding difference in the home study.
— Michael Flynn, Psychologist & Attorney at Law.
