Bob Leonard, Jr.

Over the last 30 years, Bob Leonard has had a fulfilling and challenging career as a Texas State Representative and an attorney.  In fact, in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Bob earned a prestigious recognition among the Top Attorneys in Fort Worth in Fort Worth Magazine.

Bob is among the top one percent of attorneys to be Texas Board Certified in Family Law. Board certification is the highest level of recognition by the Texas Bar of an attorney's competence and experience. To qualify for certification, an attorney must demonstrate at least five years in family law practice, and trial experience that involves issues of contested divorce, property division, child custody, child support, adoption, paternity, or other complex matrimonial litigation. Bob Leonard handles these complex cases efficiently and offers clients the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their case is in the hands of a Board Certified Specialist.

Bob practices family, probate, and juvenile law, but for anyone who knows Bob, it should come as no surprise that his favorite area of practice is adoption.  After hearing about a proposed program in Seattle aiming at saving so-called "dumpster babies," Bob played an instrumental role in drafting the Abandoned Baby Bill, which passed into Texas law in 1999.  Bob continues to serve as a board member of Guardianship Services, Inc., a nonprofit that assists children and incapacitated adults without homes, relatives to care for them, or the funds to afford a caretaker.  Through words and action, Bob is a strong advocate for the well being of children.

In the past, Bob has worked to reform the law.  From 1979 until 1988, he served in the Texas House of Representatives, representing Southwest Tarrant County.   There, he rose to leadership positions and served as chair of two committees: the Committee on Public Safety and the Committee on Healthcare for Low-Income Texans.  Bob also served as a member on the Appropriations Committee and the powerful State Affairs Committee.  During his terms in office, he was active in reforming workers compensation laws and promoting laws addressing children's issues.

Bob continues to be a leader and reformer in the legal profession.  He is a member of national, state, and Tarrant County Bar Associations and is active in family law organizations.  In 2002, Bob was the elected chairperson of the Solo-Small Firm Section of the Travis County Bar Association.  He also earned membership into the Texas Bar College and participates in the Texas Bar Foundation.

Bob has previously served as an officer or director of Easter Seals, Harris Hospital, and the Fort Worth Jaycees.  He and his wife, Sydney, led the capital campaign for the Community Hospice of Texas.
